Typical of Claire and I to find a place we like on our last night here. It’s a shame because Jane and Ian would have also liked it when they were here. It’s called Eighty One after its address on the high street in Berwick. I guess that nobody told us because they are all young and wouldn’t appreciate, live music, great atmosphere and good food. I should have taken a photo of the guy singing all the old 70’s songs he was really good with Credence Clearwater Revival, Rod Stuart etc. This always happens to us and I bet the food was good also, they certainly had a good menu but unfortunately only the Tapas menu was available until 6pm when the proper one started. www.eightyone.com.au
We had our shopping day in Fountain gate today but we did manage to get to the cinema to see The Lovely Bones. It was quite heavy and upsetting but very clever to get your emotions going like that. Claire almost had to leave the cinema at one time and only didn’t because I wouldn’t give her the half ticket to get back in again. I wish now we had seen Old Dogs which would have been a lot lighter. Anyway we got the shopping day out the way fairly painlessly. Claire bought two more pairs of shoes and 3 pairs of earrings while I had a flat white and donut whilst doing Sodoku in the Sunday paper outside the café. I read that French and Saunders have split up; you get all the English gossip out here but we get nothing of here at home. It was quite interesting sitting with a coffee watching all the different people going past. Men of a certain age wearing sandals and shorts but with their socks all the way up to their knees.
Goodbye Victoria we are on our way hopefully to better weather; however I spotted in the weather forecast that Brisbane are having showers as well but I guess at least it wont be cold. Claire had to wear her new cardigan that she bought on the market and her coat all day today. Can’t wait to see what Queensland has to offer. Before we got here we both wondered if it would be the place that we wanted to see our days out in but sadly its not; I still think that Goa is my favourite even though we have overdone our time there a little. From October to March you have clear blue skies everyday, the people are as friendly as here but it’s about a quarter of the price to live there opposed to here. The only problem Claire has is that there isn’t really any decent wine which we certainly do have here in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia; I don’t think we have had a bad glass yet whatever price we have paid. It still doesn’t make sense to me just how much a beer is in a bar over here, usually about $5 or more for a glass, its not very often you get a cheaper one. I have said it before but you can pick up a 5 litre box of white wine in the bottle shops for $12; I just can’t seem to get my head around it.
Woke up in the morning to blazing sunshine just on the day we are leaving for Brisbane which according to the weather forecast has showers for the next 5 days. At least Claire has plenty of shoes now if she gets any of them wet and we can fit them all in the luggage. If you want good weather don’t follow us around. Not sure when we will be able to publish another post as we don’t know how easy it will be to get online until we get there. Bye for now and we will see you in Queensland Yippee!!!!
